4. Intergenerational Digital Programs

Parents and grandparents are included in learning sessions to prevent technology from creating generational divides.

Digital literacy becomes a community asset — not an isolated youth privilege.


When Technology Strengthens Tradition

One of the most successful innovations occurred in Bagamoyo.

Students used tablets to document traditional medicinal plants identified by local elders. The project achieved multiple outcomes:

  • Preservation of indigenous knowledge

  • Development of digital research skills

  • Introduction to scientific documentation methods

In collaboration with a university laboratory, students later explored antimicrobial testing of selected plants. Several participants expressed interest in pursuing scientific careers.

“I never thought our village knowledge could connect to science,” said 15-year-old Rehema. “Now I want to become a researcher.”
